The Color Purple will spring to life on the Workshop Theatre stage March 15-30. This musical about love is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and the movie by the same name.
Following the life of a young black girl named Celie, the musical takes the audience on an emotional journey showing how this determined girl, through love, finds the strength to triumph over adversity and discover her unique voice in the world.
The Color Purple
is a story of hope, a testament to the healing power of love, and a celebration of life.
Director Jocelyn Sanders guides this talented ensemble cast through the decades, from Georgia to Africa and back. Musical director Roland Haynes weaves these voices around a joyous score that features jazz, ragtime, gospel, African music, and blues, while choreographer Barbara Howse-Diemer matches the music step for step.
This ensemble cast will fill the theatre with powerful, soulful voices while movingly portraying this Celie’s tale.
Uplifting and spiritually cleansing, The Color Purple will leave you welled up with pride, moved to tears, and a little closer to true happiness.
Ticket sales begin March 6 for members, and March 11 for non-members.
