Hopkins, SC - Urban League presidents from across South Carolina will be honored as 2013 recipients of the Strong Threads Community Champion Awards. The sixth annual STRONG THREADS FESTIVAL takes place Saturday, February 16, 2013 on the grounds of the historic Harriet Barber House at 116 Baberville Loop in Hopkins, SC. STRONG THREADS, Inc. celebrates the heritage, history and culture of African-Americans with music, dancing, storytelling, visual and creative arts, and drama for audiences of all ages. Thousands have enjoyed this free fun-filled day sponsored over the years by the Richland County Council, SERCO (Southeast Rural Community Outreach) and the Network for STAAR.

Join us this year as we highlight children with the Youth Choir Showcase with children’s choirs from across the state. We will also explore genealogy and family history with Rev. John Middleton. Participants can also enjoy Hopkins Middle School Chorus, the Burton Pack Steppers, African drumming and dancing lessons from ABATSU, Selena Cruz of TLC’s Toddlers and Tiara’s, Lil People of Greenville singing group, Auntie Karen’s character Olivia the Octopus, All 4 Christ gospel group and a Harriet Barber monologue.
