Columbia’s Free Blues Festival returns to MLK Park

Columbia, SC – October brings with it the return of many things familiar – the routine of school, the smells of the earth cooling, afternoons spent in emotional upheaval watching the ultimate reality TV – football and warm blankets at the foot of the bed. One thing October never fails to return to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park in Five Points is the annual Columbia Blues Festival. On Saturday, October 16 beginning at noon, the blues connoisseurs of Word of Mouth Productions (WOMP) will present this year’s line up of stellar local, regional and national blues acts for folks fortunate enough to make it down to the park that day. Everything generally winds down around 10:00 p.m., so you’ve got plenty of time to catch some fun and memorable performances.

Columbia, SC – For the second consecutive year, the Award-Winning Benedict College Gospel Choir (BCGC), under the direction of Mr. Darryl Izzard, won the top award at the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Foundation’s Annual Black College Choir Competition. The Gospel Choir Competition was held on Sunday, September 27, 2009 in Lithonia, GA.
