COLUMBIA— The 2012 Columbia Black Expo weekend will kick-off on Friday, May 18 with a grand “Taste of Black Columbia” gala event featuring local restaurants and catering businesses, a special appearance by Chef Erika Davis, a contestant on the first season of Bravo’s “Top Chef: Just Desserts” show, and entertainment by Grammy Award winning recording artist Jonathan Butler.
“After years of kicking off the weekend with gala concerts, we decided to change things up and infuse a tasty new event into the mix,” said Jeannie Jackson, Vice President of Marketing at Thomas Media Group, which produces Black Expo. “Food is an integral part of all of our lives and we have some great minority chefs and caterers in Columbia who deserve more exposure.”
“Taste of Black Columbia” will give chefs a chance to highlight some of their signature dishes in an elegant reception atmosphere at the Columbia Museum of Art. Attendees will enjoy the great food and a chance to mix and mingle with local business leaders and representatives from the various Black Expo sponsors.
The Jack and Jill Foundation will co-host the “Taste of Black Columbia” event with Thomas Media Group with proceeds benefitting the James R. Clark Memorial Sickle Cell Foundation and the South Carolina HIV/AIDS Council. Event sponsors include Kiss 103.1 FM, WLTX News 19, Blue Cross-Blue Shield of South Carolina, Aetna, the City of Columbia and the South Carolina National Guard.
Tickets for the “Taste of Black Columbia” start at $50 each. For complete pricing and purchase information, visit www.tasteofblackcolumbia.eventbrite.com.
