COLUMBIA, SC – The South Carolina State Conference of the NAACP will host its annual Freedom Fund Celebration on Friday, June 21, 2013 beginning at 6:00 pm. The formal gala will be held at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center and will include an evening of award presentations, renown speakers, entertainment and the coronation of the 2013 NAACP Woman of the Year. This year’s theme is, South Carolina NAACP: Enriching the American Experience for Seventy-Five Years.
During this celebratory evening, many state and national civil rights activists will receive recognition for their accomplishments in the struggle for equal rights. Four Presidential Citations will be awarded to South Carolinians who continue to make a dent in racial disparities within the community.
Dr. Lonnie Randolph, Jr., president of the South Carolina State Conference, NAACP, said, “As the South Carolina chapter celebrates its 75th year of charter, it becomes more and more important to acknowledge our past and honor those who continue the fight for civil rights equality within our community, state and country. This year, we celebrate how the NAACP is continuing to enrich the American experience by recognizing the valuable role we play in the embroidery of South Carolina’s fabric.”
